Shrubs and trees etc overhanging the Public Highway

We do get complaints from parishioners about overhanging shrubs, trees and vegetation onto the pavement making it difficult for people trying walk especially with wheelchairs and prams.

The owner or occupier of a property has a legal responsibility (Highway Act 1980 s154) to ensure that the 'public highway' adjacent to a property is not obstructed by vegetation from their property.

South Derbyshire to move to tier two COVID-19 restrictions

South Derbyshire residents are reminded of the need to protect themselves and others from the risk of coronavirus as Derbyshire moves to tier two (high risk) of COVID-19 following an increase in infection rates.

The new measures come into effect from 00.01 on Saturday 31 October.

Help needed to refurbish Walton On Trent Village Hall Kitchen

The Village Hall kitchen is beginning to fall into disrepair. Due to Covid-19 the Village Hall has been closed and is only just starting to get up and running. We have not received any government help or support and bookings keep us running.

Free Tree scheme launches

This year South Derbyshire District Council's Free Tree scheme celebrates its 20th year with another great selection of young trees to give away with applications beginning on 12 October.

Since the initiative began in 2001 over 10,500 trees have been given away and at least 35 schools and community groups have been involved along with countless South Derbyshire residents.

Concrete blocks on land by the bridge
